PID & PAPSMEARSFrom: a (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 7 Nov 1998 13:13:22 -0600 (CST)
I have a close friend who has had a history of menstral problems. About a year ago she started going to the doctor for excessive bleeding, loss of weight and energy, and extreme pms related pains. She would get a papsmear everytime she went to the doctors(which was extremely often) and they would treat her with 1, 2, and then 3 birthcontrol pills a day. After that stopped working they put her on the shot. Eventually that stopped working too. It didn't help that the papsmears were turning up nothing and she was still frequently getting them. The doctor decided their last resort was an exploritory surgery. She found a "bacterial infection", swelling, and she said it looked as though my friend has PID. She wants to test her for other STD's which my friend agreed to but was upset about becuase she is 100% virgin. I was wondering if the PID could have been cuased by the overwhelming amount of papsmears she's had, or if it was possible that there is another desease that is often mistaken for PID?
-- Sincerely, A Close Friend
