We use a tool with several questions. One yes answer indicates a need for urine drug screening at all OB checks in our hospital and on admission of identified individuals. A series of positive drug results indicates a pattern to use. After delivery social service intervenes and women are encouraged to enter rehab programs, as it has been found that it is better to try to rehabilitate mom's to be better parents, than to punish and take children away. I am working on a research project in a Masters program and am exploring knowledge and attitudes of RN's employed in perinatal nursing with regards to this topic. I want to determine experiences, training, and educational background and whether nurses feel more education is needed in nursing programs and am also interested in hearing about different screening policies. Thanks. kay
