breastmilk storage

Your friend is totally wrong about breastmilk storage. Your breasts continually make milk, they are never empty, you cant measure the amount of time that milk is stored in a breast as it is always being removed. You can store pumped breast milk in the refrigerator for 3 days and its still fine to feed the baby, what really worries me is that your 2 week old baby is only eating every 3 - 4 hours and you feel that your not making enough milk. Breast milk production is strictly supply and demand, the more your baby demands the higher your supply is. A 2 week old baby should be nursing at the breast every 2 - 3 hours, 8 - 12 times every 24 hours, should be having 6 - 7 wet diapers every 24 hours and several bowel movements each day, they should appear liquidy, yellow, thin, often with seeding looking stuff in them. If you give your breasts more stimulation they will make more milk and there is no need for you to pump. I suggest that you try and find a certified lactation consultant in your area for assistance and quick! You can e mail ILCA (International Lactation Consultant Assoc.) at ilca@erols.com and write referral needed in the subject line and they will let you know who practices in your area. I am also a Certified Lactation Consultant, please e mail me if you have questions but e mail cannot take place of a real consultant there with you. Please visit my breastfeeding web page at http://www.erols.com/cindyrn for accurate info. Breastfeeding is an important thing to do for your self and your baby and I send you good wishes.
