I had always had heavy, painful periods, childbirth didn't change that. My tubes were cut, cauterized and double banded. My periods did become irregular and heavier and more painful after the tubal ligation was done. After 6 years of this I saw a different doctor (mine had left the practice between annual pap/pelvic exams) and when I told my new doctor all that I'd been experiencing since the tubal I was told that sometimes this happens and there is no real clear reason why. A more thorough exam was performed and some noticeable abnormalities were detected which eventually led to a hysterectomy. This is not to say that you need to have a hysterectomy. Keep a detailed history of the next several months, note each day whether you have pain, cramping, spotting, mood swings, fatigue, etc. After 3 months look at your calendars and see if you detect a predictable pattern. This will go along way in assisting your doctor in evaluating what is going on with you. After talking with several of my friends all between the ages of 30 and 40 we have several similarities in that we all began experiencing changes in our cycles in the early/mid 30's range with 8 out of 10 of us saying that our periods became more painful, irregular and heavy. It is also worth noting that 9 of us had tubal ligations and 7 of us have 2 children, 1 has 1 child and the other 2 have 3 children. 2 had their children by c-section. When you go for your next exam, take your calendars with you so you can show your doctor what is happening. Best of luck to you.
