Re: We all need to become better informed consumers of medical care! For DRs

I consider myself to be an informed medical patient. Why is it that doctors get "on edge" or nervous when I bring up info that I know? Like my OB/GYN, when I told him that I knew how cysts occurred, he acted slightly different. I explained to him that I was researching the topic because I was scared, not that I didn't trust him. He then seemed okay with it.

But even other types of doctors behaved in the same way. Are some doctor inheriently insecure? It isn't like I challenge the doctor's judgement or anything. I feel like it's my body and I should know as much as I possibly can. It's like the doctor expect everyone to know nothing and accept everything said without question.

For anyone looking for infomation on the web, MedLine is a good (although really technical) source. Also the FDA has info on the web as do some hospitals.

Thanks for letting me vent

Ann
