Tonya, I understand how you are feeling - after 18 years of normal paps and no problems I was suddenly told I needed a colposcopy with biopsy. It took a week to get my results and a million thoughts went round and round in my head. I ended up needing surgery. I know this is easy to say and not quite as easily done but try not to worry yourself into a frenzy. You already know that something is there that shouldn't be and your next step will be having it taken care of. When you get your results make sure that you understand what you are being told. If you do not understand what is being said to you, ask the doctor or nurse to explain it to you in simpler terms (why are some of those medical words so unpronounceable?) Ask them, what does this mean? What is the next step? If surgery is mentioned ask at that time what type of recovery period is anticipate so if it is necessary to arrange child care for a day or two, or to have children taken to school or picked up from school you will have a better sense of control. I think the hardest thing a patient feels is the lack of control over the situation. Anything that you can do to put some of this in your control will help alleviate your anxieties.
