Valerie,

I've been through the colposcopy, biopsy, and cryosurgery for moderate dysplasia. The colposcopy and biopsy didn't hurt, but I have to be honest and say the cryosurgery did A LOT. I was told to take Ibruprofen about a half hour before the procedure. Don't know if it really helped or not. It sorta feels like major menstrual cramps or labor, I've experienced both. My doctor froze my cervix for 3 minutes. After this time she left me alone to rest for about 15 minutes or so. I became extremely flushed and hot, which I hear is common, and so I had a nurse give me a cold washrag to cool me down. Within a few minutes I was fine, no pain in the cervix. The pain stopped as soon as the 3 minutes of freezing was done. I was told not to have sex or use tampons for 2 weeks, some doctors say a month. I had a very watery discharge, requiring me to wear pads everyday for about 3 or 4 weeks. If you'd like more information on this, or just more reassurance let me know. You can e-mail me at gebeck@uswest.net. I will be praying for you! >It sounds like agony - being offered cervical pain killing via
