About 6 months ago I began having the same areola itching problem you described in your post. My itching seemed to become worse about a week or so before I was to get my period. The itching was just one of many symtoms I began having over the last 3 years. I finally had my hormone levels tested and found out I was estrogen deficient. Even though I still have regular periods my day 20 estrogen level was about 120 points lower than it should be and my day 1 estrogen level was at a post-menopausal level. I have never had a FSH test so I am not sure if I am peri-menopausal (I am 34 years old). I have been on HRT for about 4 months and I have not experienced the itching since starting this regimen. In my opinion my itching was hormonally related. Hope this helps!
