Dr. Ind: Nice to see the tables turned! :) My older brother and I grew our early years with a guard dog--an actual retired police dog, that is. There were a few of them that we went through and I don't remember any of them as each by some strange coincedence (and unrelated) fell down with breast cancer. This saddened my poor father beyond belief and had a great impact on him. These dogs as I'm told make *WONDERFUL* babysitters. My brother and I, friends, too, could play in our yard safely. The dog was our protector and knew its job well! Police dogs are trained exceptionally well, and if a good one, will be tolerant of any child. I've been told that my brother and I would pull her tail or use her as a pillow. She never harmed us and welcomed us with open paws. In some ways I guess she was kind of like a second mother: she was there to keep us out of trouble. I don't know if this is a similar type of guard dog that you mentioned in your post, but I hope that this helps. You said that the dog bit you at first meeting, and if this is a true guard dog it's probably because the dog didn't know you. Can I assume since that point it has simply loved you? Be sure that whatever happens to the dog, there are Warning signs posted in the yard! Real guard dogs *will* attack those they don't know who trespass. P.S.---I wish you and your neighbors well. And FWIW, I also love the idea of you taking the dog! ~~ AnnMarie
