To Dr. Ind-- re large ovarian cystFrom: kaci (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 31 Jul 1998 21:01:20 -0500 (CDT)
Thanks, Dr. Ind for replying to my original question. In response to your questions I am giving more information about my condition. I saw an oncologic gynecologist after referral from my regular gynecologist. Three years ago I had a mucinous cyst adenoma (benign) removed along with my left ovary. The cyst filled my entire pelvic cavity. This cyst is very large (10.5 cm) but not at all the size of the previous one. I had a CA125 test last week which came back at 50. This alarms me somewhat because I know it is above normal, but the dr. says there is a good chance the cyst is benign. He says CA125 readings can go into the thousands. The cyst appears clear on ultrasound but doubled in size in a month. I am 40, never been pregnant. I have fibroids and very heavy menses; one measurement of my uterus is 11cm. But through all this I have never had any pain to speak of. I have reconciled myself to hysterectomy this time, but it is cancer I'm more worried about. Father had colorectal cancer at 71; Mother had lung cancer 10 yrs. ago and is surviving at 74. What I'd like to know is how abnormal my CA125 reading is? Have there been instances of benign cysts with a CA125 of 50? Thank you.
