lroberts, Have you been tested for any iot the autoimmune disorders, chronic fatigue etc.? Is the fatigue all the time or around you cycle? About 5 years ago I started having extreme fatigue and after ruling out all other disorders, and because of something that showed in my blood they ruled I had chronic fatigue. With proper nutrition and supplements I have managed very well. Here is something that I have taken for my energy that works well. I just typed this up for someone else on another newsgroup so I have it here fresh! Hope this helps! Sherrie Nu Energy The- high stress of daily life in modern America has resulted in prolonged pressure upon the adrenal glands to produce tremendous quantities of hormones to deal with this stress. For many Americans this constant stress seems to have produced a form of renal insufficiency. The adrenal glands have become so overworked they may no longer produce sufficient quantities of hormones for some individuals to adequately cope with the stress of life. ADRENAL CORTEX HORMONES The outer portion of the adrenal glands are known as the cortex which produces a very different class of hormones than that of the inner or medulla portion. A lack of sufficient hormones from the adrenal cortex may be manifest as a wide variety of heal problems. One of the most notorious is a sense of chronic fatigue and exhaustion, of being tired all the time, even when a physician can find no medical cause for the problem. HYPOGLYCEMIA Hormones from the adrenal cortex known as glucocorticoids, regulate blood sugar. When not produced in a timely and sufficient quantity, blood sugar becomes very unstable and may remain at low levels for hours at a time. This creates a feeling of tiredness and a lack of energy as well as a loss of mental alertness. When carried to extremes, sharp fluctuation of adrenal cortex hormones may result in an extremely brittle form of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). With sudden drops of the blood sugar accompanied by one or more of the following: dizziness, levelheadedness, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, sweaty palms. temporary loss of memory, confusion of thinking, headache, depression, irritability, loss of patience, craving for sweets or loss of appetite. ALLERGIES Another problem which may occur when adrenal cortex hormones are in short supply is the loss of sufficient corticoid hormones (especially cortisone) to prevent excessive responses of the immune system to airborne and contact allergens. The result can be severe bouts of hay fever and asthma as well as skin rashes. NEUROTRANSMITTERS AND HYPERACTIVITY The complex balance of hormones throughout the body has a profound effect upon a group of chemical substances which regulate the nervous system, they are called neurotransmitters. When the balance of hormones is upset, this may result in the over stimulation of the neurotransmitters of excitement. Many eminent health authorities such as Drs. Finegold and Rimland, have found evidence that artificial coloring and flavoring agents and excess sugar as used in many processed foods, may over stimulate the renal glands of sensitive children. This seems to be the major cause of hyperactivity in children. Their hormone balance is so upset they have an excess of the neurotransmitters of excitement. As a result, they are unable to concentrate in order to learn, and unable to cooperate in order to relate well with others. NUTRIENTS TO COMBAT STRESS NU-ENERGY NUTRIENTS TO COMBAT STRESS NU-ENERGY has been formulated with nutrients specifically designed to support the body's ability to normalize its hormone production during times of stress. The formula contains several nutritional factors. A brief review of each of them will underscore their importance. LYSINE The body takes the protein in the diet and during digestion breaks it down into individual amino acids before absorbing them. It then uses these amino acids in various combinations to build everything from connective tissue and muscle to hormones and nuerotransmitters. The NU-ENERGY formula contains three of the amino acids known to be vital for the production of energy and stress-related neurotransmitters and hormones. One of these is lysine, an amino acid founded by the United States Air Force School of Aerospace in 1975 to be used up in very high amounts during stress. This is not surprising since other researchers had already found that lysine is of critical importance to enzyme systems of the adrenal glands during stress. GLUTAMIC ACID The second most prevalent amino acid in the brain is glutamic acid. This amino acid is capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier where it is used as a neurotransmitter to relay messages within the brain and other nerve tissue. It is very important for memory function. Some of it is also converted in the brain to GABA--an important calming neurotransmitter, and to GAM one of the most significant fuels of the entire brain and nervous system. TYROSINE Tyrosine is the third amino acid in this formula, and has been described in these words by the Princeton Brain-Bio Center, "Tyrosine, because of its role in assisting the body to cope with stress and building the body's natural store of adrenaline, deserves to be called the stress amino acid." Tyrosine is the major raw material for the production of the thyroid hormone thyroxine the adrenal hormones adrenaline and noradrenalin, and the brain neurotransmitters epinephrine and norepinephrine. All of which are key hormones and neurotransmitters required to deal with stress effectively. PROTOMORPHOGEN The importance of nourishing the adrenal glands in times of stress can be scarcely overemphasized. One of the key nutritional factors in doing this is called a proto (meaning first) morpho (meaning to form) gen (meaning to generate or create). This consists of the nucleoproteins found in the heart of adrenal cells themselves. The adrenal glands of animals used for meat purposes are isolated, freeze dried to preserve all enzyme activity, then ground to a fine powder. This powder now contains all of the nutritional factors including the vital nucleo proteins required to rebuild exhausted adrenal glands. This adrenal powder of protomorphogens is included in the NU-ENERGY formula to provide complete nutritional support for these glands. NOTE: NU-ENERGY is formulated more as nutritional support mechanism to be used in times of stress, where as AD FORMULA, another Vitality Labs product, has been formulated to produce nutrition which may actually be used by the body to rebuild exhausted adrenal glands. HERBAL SAPONINS On almost every continent in the world, native people have discovered herbs which strengthen and support the body in times of stress. NU-ENERGY uses three different herbs, one from each of the three different continents--each of which has been used for thousands of years by native people for increased energy, stamina and resistance to stress. Modem research has disclosed that the primary active ingredient in these herbs is a special class of substances called saponins. The particular saponins in these herbs are triterpenodial glycosides, and were first identified in 1961-62 by professor Elyakov of Russia and professor Shibata of Japan. From 1962 to 1972 careful research by a series of Japanese and Russian scientists have clearly shown this class of saponins to dramatically increase energy and stamina by aiding the adrenal glands to improve their production of hormones, particularly while under stress. SIBERIAN GINSENG The oriental herb eleutherococcus, best known to Westerners as Siberian Ginseng (although it is not ginseng at all), is used in the NU-ENERGY formula. Professor Brekhman tested an extract of this herb on 8,000 mice and found they could swim 30 percent longer than mice who did not receive it. When Brekhman gave the extract from Siberian Ginseng to runners in a double blind study before a 10-kilometer race, those receiving the herb were able to chop an average of five minutes time from the average of .6 minutes established by those receiving only a placebo. Had the eight runners receiving the herb been in a relay race, they would have come in 40 minutes ahead of the other team using the placebo. It is this same herb which Russian athletes have been taking in training for the Olympics which they have come to dominate. Could this herb be what is making the difference? Interestingly, this same herb, when given to the hyperactive, has a calming effect. BLUE VERVAIN A native North American herb used by the Indians is Verbena hastata, also known as Indian Hyssop and Blue Vervain. This herb also contains saponins and was valued by the Indians as a tonic herb for rehabilitation during convalescence from serious illness. Early pioneer herbalists and country doctors also came to rely upon it for its tonic effect. And like Siberian Ginseng, it was also known for its calming effect upon the hyperactive. PAULINA CUPANA A South American herb native to Brazil which has found extensive use among natives in the jungles is Paulina cupana, also known as Uabano. This herb is rich in saponins and has been found to dramatically increase energy and stamina. Because this herb contains a small amount of caffeine, it was originally thought that its benefits were due to its presence. However, it was observed that most people who could not tolerate caffeine were not affected by the herb. Later, it was found that the herb only contained 4 percent caffeine, far too low an amount to account for the energy and endurance it produces. For example, the amount of Paulina cupana used in NU-ENERGY contains only 28 mg. of naturally occurring caffeine which is less than 20 percent of the amount found, on the average, in one cup of coffee. However, even this small amount is counterbalanaced by the other elements found in this herb. It was not until after the discovery of the plant saponins, triterpenodial glycosides in ginseng in 1962 that it was realized that the real benefits of this herb must be coming from its saponin content. OCTACOSANOL The NU-ENERGY formula is rounded out with at least 1000 mcg of octacosanol in each tablet. This is the remarkable energy and stamina producing substance isolated from wheat germ oil by Ezra Levin. Dr. Thomas Cureton at the University of Illinois found that when given to athletes, it increased their reaction speed and stamina, as well as stabilized their metabolic rate while under stress. Dr. Carlton Fredricks was the first to discover its remarkable beneficial effects upon nerve tissue and the brain neurotransmitters. Dr. Robert C. Atkins has found it very beneficial with all types of disorders and calls it a "universal tonic" which even helps improve children with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder). A POWERFUL COMBINATION The combination of these powerful nutrients into one formula provides a single nutritional source which may greatly aid the body in increasing energy and stamina in the face of unavoidable stress. It offers nutritional support to tired and overworked adrenal glands which may bring relief from hypoglycemia, hay fever, asthma, contact dermatitis, as well as hyperactivity in children, all of which is associated with hormone and neurotransmitter imbalance.

INGREDIENTS One tablet of Nu-Energy contains the following ingredients in amounts which are substantial, but which are carefully guarded proprietary information: lysine, glutamic acid, tyrosine, adrenal substance, Siberian ginseng, blue vervain, Paulina Cupana, and octacosanol. SUGGESTED USE The Institute offers the following suggestion in the use of this product. For adults, one or two tablets, two or three times per day as needed, or take as directed by your physician. Note: Nu-Energy tablets taken too close to bedtime may inhibit sleeping
