Without knowing the cause of your amenorrhea, it is impossible to guess at whether or not it will persist. For example, if it's from pregnancy, it will persist 9 months. If it's from your thyroid, it will persist until you receive thyroid medication. If it's from scar tissue within the uterus or a blockage of the cervix, your period will not return until surgery corrects the problem. So, that's why I was interested in whether or not your doctor performed an evaluation to diagnose the problem, or simply prescribed birth control pills.
