32 day period flow/progesterone prescriptionFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netThu, 28 May 1998 18:27:11 EDT
My cycles were coming every 26 days with flooding flows, and then my last one flowed for 32 days (some days heavier like my periods and some days less). My obgyn checked me and said she couldn't feel fibroids or cysts (I'm slim so I don't think they could hide anywhere) so she prescribed progesterone to take mid cycle for two months. I am also hypothyroid, which has been stable for 6 months. I've always been sure I've been infertile because I've not gotten pregnant and I'm in my mid thirties. My doc and I determined years ago that I was ovulating (via temp charts/blood tests)...I realize that I may not be ovulating now...anyway, here are my questions: 1) Are there known side effects to this oral progesterone (provera is what she prescribed)? 2) Is it true that natural progesterone is easier for a woman's body to tolerate than synthetic? 3) If I get pregnant while taking this, could birth defects occur from the medication? 4) Does my soy habit (2-5 servings daily) affect these hormones? Thanks in advance for any information at all.
