Re: Ultrasound, femur length & down's syndromeFrom: art fougner, md (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 21 May 1998 11:03:57 -0500 (CDT)
without going into specifics, here are some generalities concerning ultrasound in the diagnosis of Down's syndrome. when major abnormalities are noted, there is an increased risk for abnormal chromosomes. there are many subtle abnormalities thought to be associated with an increased risk for chromosome abnormalities as well. one of these is a shorter than expected femur length. the predicitve value of these findings seems to vary between laboratories. you might wish to sit with your doctor and go over your ultrasound results to re-assess your particular concerns. hope this helps.
