Endometrial Tissue Passed During PeriodFrom: Helen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 29 Apr 1998 01:14:46 -0400 (EDT)
On the first day of my period, I passed a lump of pink tissue (irregular shape, about the size of a quarter and about the thickness of 1-1/2 quarters; mostly light pink with a little blood-red coloring in a couple of spots). I'm used to passing clots but this was definitely different -- not a clot -- so I took it in to my ob-gyn's office & he sent it on to the pathology lab for analysis. I'm nervous!! He said he wasn't sure what it is, but that it looked like endometrial lining. I know I have fibroids; I'm 44; have had 2 children; & had a tubal ligation 10-1/2 years ago. 1 - Is passing tissue like this at all common? (It didn't sound like my doctor had ever seen this before.) 2 - What would cause this to happen? a - Is it related to my fibroids? 3 - Is this likely to be malignant tissue? 4 - What should I expect as the next step/recommendation? I searched the archives & didn't see a single question like this one. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
