Estrogen/Weight Gain with HysterectomyFrom: Angelica (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 21 Apr 1998 22:10:46 -0500 (CDT)
Hi! I am in my late 20's. Had 7 surgeries in 4 years due to endo, adhesional disease, etc. Finally had a total abdominal hysterectomy 1 1/2 years ago with an appendectomy (due to extreme pain and endo). We have tried several types of estrogen (3 different patches, estratest/estratab, premarin, etc) and have not been able to find one that agrees with me. I have had severe allergic reactions to the adhesive in the patches and hot flashes, weight gain (20 lbs), irritability, lack of libido and acne with the oral medications. Do you know of any alternatives? Also, I have been experiencing intermittent pain on the right side (appendix area) and lower abdominal area. My doctor feels that my pain is related to adhesions or something else but does not want to pursue because he states that the recurrence rate for endo after hysterectomy is less than 2% and there is nothing you can do for the adhesions. I know that surgery creates adhesions so I suppose it is a catch 22. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
