Re: Tubular Dye Test - but allergic to dye!From: J.Tomko (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 12 Apr 1998 22:11:51 -0500 (CDT)
Susan, Was your reaction anaphylactic shock? There are different modes to instill the dyes. If your reaction was to a venous injection the hysterosalpingography should be a lessened reaction but still be of concern. There are premedication techniques that are given to patients that show prior allergic reactions. Our institution utilizes dosing of prednisone 50 mg starting at 18 hours prior to exam another dose 12 hours prior to exam, another dose 6 hours prior to exam and one dose at time of exam. Benedryl 50 mg is given one hour prior. Talk with the radiology department of your concerns and see if the dye used is the same as your spinal tap. Another option is to have sonohysterography with some of the newer non-iodine contrast agents. Good Luck! Janet Tomko RDMS
