If you sleep on your back, it may be that you become *very* relaxed and that your vaginal opening opens a little, permitting air to enter. This occasionally happens to my baby daughter when I change her diaper, so I imagine it might happen to an adult under certain circumstances. As Tracy Trull said, of course it can also happen during sex. But it isn't *gas* - that is, not something produced by your body - and as far as my experience goes, it isn't harmful. You might find you experience less of it if you sleep on your side or stomach? --angela b.
