Dear Dr. Kompanietz,

The lesion WAS removed as was confirmed by the pathologist. The margins are clear. The reason my doctor is urging a hysterectomy is for preventative reasons, should the carco or dysplasia come back. My concern is the danger of it coming back to an area that can't be detected. But chances of that seem slim since I'll be gettting Paps every 3 months. My doctor reminds me that Paps can be false-negative and false-positive. And should the trasition zone be high up in the canal a Pap won't detect it. But I'm wondering how miniscule these chances are. It's seems very conservative to consider a false negative pap reading, however, I guess all chance must be considered. I am 34 and have had 3 children. But I don't welcome the risks of surgery and the repercussions of a hysterectomy. When it comes right dowm to it though, isn't it all odds? There's a chance I could also get vaginal cancer, with or without my uterus. I guess I'm just trying to decide on the best odds. And right now with the CONE being 90% curative, it seems I could very well go the rest of my life with no further problems. Please comment, it is very appreciated. Thank you.
