The pill's backup method, in case you still ovulate, is that the lining of
your uterus is disrupted to the point that it cannot support a fertilized
egg (should you ovulate and conceive). If you believe that life begins at
conception, this may be a moral concern for you (that you might be
ovulating, conceiving, but not carrying).
This is more common on the low-dose or progesterone only pills, the
"mini-pills".
