Bleeding into LaborFrom: Holly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 27 Feb 1998 11:17:01 -0600 (CST)
I am 29 and had my first child 6 months ago. Everything is fine but the way I went to the hospital to have him was very scary. I woke up in the middle of the night (two weeks before due date) bleeding extremely heavily. I have never seen so much blood. When I woke, I thought my water had broken but it was actually blood gushing out. I also had a few very large clots (about half dollar size). We rushed to the hospital where they stopped the bleeding somehow, I don't know. I was having minor contractions that I really couldn't feel (we only saw them on monitor). They did an ultrasound and baby was fine but fluid was low so they induced labor by breaking my water. I went right into labor and to make a long story short, everything worked out fine. The doctors never told me why I bled like that and I never really had a chance to ask since everything is so crazy during and after the birth. My questions are: 1)What can possibly cause something like this? 2)Is this something I will have to worry about if I have another pregnancy? Thanks for any information you can provide.
