? about laparoscopy

I am scheduled for a laparoscopy in 3 weeks and I am nervous. I can tell my gyn is a bit hesitant about doing this because as he put it, I am not "virginal", surgically speaking. However, I have extreme confidence in his surgical abilities and know he would not do it if he thought it unwise. So that helps. Here is my concern: I have read that one of the contraindications for laparoscopy is the presence of adhesions. Yet laparoscopy can diagnose adhesions, so I guess it is a matter of degree? If they don't know you have adhesions and you do, what happens when they try to expand the abdomen with the gas? Do adhesions attached to the abdominal wall just rip? Or is there a way to check out the situation before proceeding? I need some technical info to alleviate my anxiety. Thanks!
