leiomyoma, mitotically active, cellularFrom: emily (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 15 Feb 1998 15:37:11 -0600 (CST)
I just had a cervical polyp removed a week ago. When the results came back my Dr. said that it is leiomyoma. I am 21 yrs old and I don't have any children yet. My Dr. strongly suggested that I have a hysterectomy done only if I already had kids. But since I don't he said he would just monitor the area and see if it grows back. My question is: why would the Dr. suggest me having a hysterectomy now if I already had kids to then saying he would just monitor the area for now. To me a hysterectomy sounds like a very serious thing to suggest. Do I have anything to worry about? The Dr. said that if it grows back then I would need a hysterectomy right then. He said that If it grows back then the cancer cells could have spead and that this type of cancer is uncurable and I could die. If there is a chance that if it grows back that I could die why wouldn't he say that I should have one now. could you please explain to me more clearly of wht exactly my risks are if any? Thank you Emily
