Abnormal Uterine Bleeding/Post Hysterectomy

I am 35 years old and just had an abdominal hysterectomy on December 18th - only my uterus was removed. I have had no pregnancies. The hysterectomy was performed because of ongoing problems with abnormal uterine bleeding which could not be corrected with hormones, D&C or other methods. I have never had "normal" periods since I was 16. At that time I was placed on birth control pills to correct the problems (very little bleeding, horrible cramps, and terrible headaches). This corrected the problem until I went off of the pill approximately 5 years ago (at which time I had my tubes tied). The abnormal bleeding became increasingly worse in the past year. Particularly since September 97, when I continued to have one long period with horrible cramping & clots. During this time, I also had a problem with chronic uterine infections. After my hysterectomy I developed post-surgical complications with vaginal bleeding 3 weeks after surgery. My doctor diagnosed an infection and I was placed on IV antibiotic with oral flagyl for 10 days. The bleeding has finally stopped, however, I still continue to have some abdominal pain. Also, I still feel like I am ovulating every 2 weeks (swollen breasts, cramping, and a discharge). I have had past ovarian cysts. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. My doctor could not find any evidence of endometriosis or endomyosis(?), fibroids, etc. Although I have an family history (my mom and one aunt) who have had fibroid tumors & endometriosis). I am looking for further information on uterine/pelvic infections and any role that abnormal ovulation may play in the problems I am having.
