Iron in PrenatalsFrom: LuanneO (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 9 Jan 1998 10:46:33 EST
Same history as in the prior colpo question. 37yo, G6P1, 12 weeks, DES daughter, high-risk, cervical problems, antiphospholipid syndrome, long term infertility patient. My full term pregnancy was prior to the big folate push and I was not on any vitamins. In 1994 after a year long bout with long heavy periods, I was slightly anemic. And, in 1995, in the IUFD pregnancy, I was put on iron supplements for 4 weeks after hemorhaging. I've now been on Prenatal vitamins for 3.5 years straight. With the gastrointestinal changes of pregnancy (!), plus the dietary changes, I want to get away from the Iron in my vitamins. I eat well...my idea of junk food is a pretzel. I do love one can of Coke a week... I've had several ultrasounds and the development is fine. There's a beautiful spine, brain development, fingers, toes, etc. :-) I'm thinking about switching to a regular multivitamin without iron and with .4 mg folate versus 1 mg in my prenatals. Does it make a difference at this point? Should I alternate the multi with the prenatal? Thanks again... Luanne
