Re: late period..worried!!From: Stormy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 8 Jan 1998 16:33:14 -0600 (CST)
Lisa, I'll give it a try while you wait for responses from the docs. I am probably the exception to the rule but I have 4 children and never a positive pregnancy test until I'm 6-8 weeks pregnant. I have had numerous negative urine tests both at home and at docs and also twice had negative serum (blood) pregnancy tests. I, too, like you, was very regular and never late unless I was pregnant. About 15 months after my third child was born this changed. Three times that next year I was 2 weeks or more late without being pregnant and no obvious reason for it. This brings a few things to my mind...I think often a woman's cycle changes as she gets older...or at least that has been my experience at 34! Other things can affect your cycle as well, like did you just quit nursing a baby, or are you under a lot of stress, or did you just start a vigorous exercise program, or are you taking new meds...drugs like depo-provera or "mini" birth control pills can affect your cycle. Do you have any problems with your thyroid? Do you have any symptoms of infection? Are you using any form of birth control and did you have intercourse within the days right before you ovulated, etc. If you answer some of these questions it might help the docs make a better guess as to what is going on. In the meantime it may give you something to think about as to what could be causing your problems. Hope it helps! Take care!
