Amber-

Adenomyosis is a common gynecologic condition where the tissue from the lining of the uterine cavity, called the endometrium, "grows" into the uterus itself. The uterus is essentially a big muscle with a thin lining along it's inside cavity. The tissue from the lining can set up shop in the muscular areas, causing pain, a swollen uterus, abnormal bleeding, and pain with intercourse. (Another similar condition, endometriosis, occurs when the endometrial tissue ends up completely outside the uterus and implants on various organs, such as the ovaries, intestines, and bladder).

Swollen veins around the uterus refers to a different condition, called "pelvic congestion" and not to adenomyosis.

Good luck with your upcoming surgery!
