Presuming you're talking about Cervical carcinoma, stage 1a.. I was once taught many years ago 7-10 years but I think it's probably less (I have no solid data to back this up).

Not aware of any studies.

Colposcopy may be helpful. Obvious cancers that are exophytic in nature can be seen.
