birth control pills and cervical cancer

I wrote in earlier about having too long of periods, but would rather not go on birth control pills to correct it. I wa wondering though how long I'd have to be on birth control pills to correct my cycle? Also, I read somewhere that birth control pills increase your risk of cervical cancer, is this true? I have been treated with cryosurgery for cervical dysplasia. So far my paps have been normal, but I don't want to take anything that could cause it to come back. Would the birth control pills do this? Thanks for any information.
