Re: Should I have a Hysterectomy?From: Garry E. Siegel, M.D. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Oct 1997 23:36:31 -0600 (CST)
I would wonder what happened to you on Birth Control Pills, and especially on Depo-Provera; usually, in the absence of an anatomic problem (something is wrong with your "parts" ie a polyp in the uterus, or fibroids, or a uterine lining problem), most menstuating women with abnormal bleeding can be controlled. It would be reasonable to do any of the following for you prior to a hysterectomy: 1. Ultrasound of the uterus with saline to look at the inside (endometrial cavity). 2. Diagnostic Hysteroscopy and diagnostic laparoscopy to look inside the uterus, and especially to look for endometriosis. My educated guess is that you might have endometriosis. Good Luck Garry no private emails please; educational advice only and not a physician patient relationship.
