Leg Numbness During PregnancyFrom: Mary (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Oct 1997 20:45:50 -0600 (CST)
Last year, in the fourth month of pregnancy I developed a sensory-type numbness in my left thigh. The area was above the knee and on the outside of my leg. Total area involved was about 15X15 cm. A few months after delivery my FP referred me to a physical therapist who did some spinal manipulations, put me in traction 6 times, applied ultrasound heat followed by ice packs and gave me home exercises to do. After religiously following her directions the area of numbness improved only slightly. My FP, OB and the PT all said it would most likely be aggravated in a subsequent pregnancy. Low and behold, I am at 20 weeks now and the numbness has returned much worse than before. Now, when I am on my feet for 15 minutes the entire outside of my thigh goes numb and it has spread to the front as well. It also feels like I am being poked with needles in one area. Is there anyone out there who has experienced a similar problem? Are there any other ways to correct this? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
