All the talk about this being an international forum, etc., got me thinking what a unique opportunity it is for sharing. I am a RN,BSN and live in Colorado. I have had 4 children, my first in a small town hospital in Montana and my other 3 at a high-tech hospital in Utah. I had my first "natural" and started labor on my own 20 days past my due date. They were going to allow me to go 6 weeks past my due date before inducing and made this decision without aid of ultrasound, amniocentesis, or even a single non-stress test! My next 3 were all inductions with epidurals--both good ones and bad ones! My 3rd was a forcepts delivery. Even with my own children I have been amazed at the medical advances, insurance hoops to jump through, etc. over the past 15 years. My question for all of you is...what's it like in your countries? Do the insurance companies rule how you care for you patients to the same extent they do in the US? Do you have CNM's? Home births? Epidurals? Birth centers? What kind of birth plans to women want there (other than a healthy outcome for mom and babe!) I know a lot is the same but there's bound to be a lot different too. Would just like anyone interested to share how things are done in your countries. Thanks much! :))
