Re: inverted nipplesFrom: Anne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 23 Oct 1997 21:01:03 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Mom, I am not a doctor but here is my two cents worth. I nursed for 16 months and it was a wonderful experience. Please reassure your daughter she is not a freak and that with inverted nipples she can still breastfeed when the time comes. There are many devices to bring out retracted nipples for nursing and they work! Many, many women have inverted nipples and it is not abnormal! In addition to consulting a plastic surgeon for surgery you need to disguss future breastfeeding plans with your daughter and maybe even consult a Lactation Consultant(hospital, La Leche League) for further options. These women deal with breasts all day long! :) They may have some insight to help. Although breastfeeding may not sound attractive to a 15 yr old, it can be very attractive when you cuddle your sweet smelling newborn in your arms. You may also mention that when it comes time for breastfeeding her future husband may be militant about it! and she may want to have all her parts intact, inverted or not! :) well hope I didn't sound to militant myself, hope this helped some.
