how to detect a septum?

Which other ways are there, apart from hysteroscopy, to detect a septum in the uterus? Can it be seen on a 'contrast' photo (sorry, don't know the English name), or could it be discovered during an operation for an ectopic? I underwent all three of the above and it is not really clear to me when the septum was really discovered! Thank you for your time,
