Age of Placenta

Hi-

My sister had a baby and the doctor induced labor two weeks prior to the due date. The doctor told us that the placenta was getting old.

I was curious as to how doctor's determine this information. And why does the placenta get too old too support the infant before the body is ready to deliver the baby?

Interesting- I think!

Thanks, jennifer smoyer
