Progesterone

I'm 48 years old and three years ago I had a complete hysterectomy for severe endometriosis. I've been on only estrogen and I think progesterone would make my life more like it was before. I've mentioned it to my doctor but he says I don't need it as I haven't a uterus to protect. Why isn't progesterone prescribed to women in my situation? I recently have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and my cholesteral is high. Any connection???
