Re: Menstral pain and Severe CrampingFrom: Harvey S. Marchbein, M.D. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 28 Aug 1997 16:27:04 -0500 (CDT)
Hi K. I congratulate you on being a teenager and getting to the web and finding us in order to ask a question.
>I am a 17 year old teenager. I started my period when I was 10 years It is possible but more likely is just painful periods, which are more likely when you ovulate during that cycle. Most women do not start ovulating for a few years after they start ther periods, so this is entirely possible. But so is the endometriosis.
>In the past year my periods have also gotten a lot heavier Whether from endometriosis or just painful periods associated with ovulatory cycles, I'd normally recommend the oral contraceptive pill. It will successfully treat the pain by preventing it in most patients. The only reason to not be on the pill is if there is a contraindication in your medical history. You need to see a gynecologist for a thorough exam and discussion of your options. Good luck.
