Re: Menstrual problems status post tubal ligationFrom: Pat (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 28 Aug 1997 10:22:05 -0500 (CDT)
I feel more research needs to be done in this arena. I think the downside of a tubal ligation affects more than 10% of women, but have no research to support this. I see women 2,5, 10 years later, after a tubal ligation, who clearly identify changes in their cycles, mood swings, and overall changes in their hormonal system. Is this related to the tubal they had? It is difficult to research this, as so many factors impinge upon women's health: age of fertility, types of birth control used, age of tubal ligation, general health, genetic predispositon, and age of menopuase or perimenopuase. With my clients I try to help them: improve their nutritional status, learn all they can about the particular problem they are experiencing, and help them find things that work, that helps them feel better. Each woman is an individual, and must be treated as such.
