Hi Lisa, Congrats on the pregnancy! I think Dr. Klein gave a great explanation of the first visit. I want to just reinforce the idea of meeting with and talking with your doctor or midwife *before* you get undressed. There's nothing more unnerving to me than a caregiver who's clearly in a rush and trying to have a conversation with a speculum in me!! One other idea (besides having someone you trust with you) is to write down any and all questions you have and bring the list with you to the appointment. I always find it very helpful -- sometimes I feel a bit awkward looking at my list, but I'm happy not to have forgotten what questions I needed to have answered. I know for my first prenatal appointment with my first baby, there was no way I could have remembered ALL the MANY questions I had!! Also, every doctor and midwife I've seen has been happy to go over my list with me. Good luck!!
