Well, I was all set to help answer your questions, until I read the above statement. Seriously, Kathleen, do you really think that every single female gynecologist has had colposcopy?! And, even if they had, each person has a different pain tolerance, so there would be little validity in asking "does it hurt?" Imagine the look I would get if I showed up in the emergency department with a heart attack and would only see a doctor who had also had a heart attack, because he or she would "know what it felt like"! I've performed several hundred of these and give lectures to interns and patients on this procedure, so I feel qualified to answer your questions. However, I really can't see spending my 15 minutes of free time tonight trying to help someone with your attitude.

This is a forum where women (and their partners) ask questions to health care providers, both male and female, who are volunteering their free time. My impression of your post is that you are not really seeking an answer, but rather wanted to vent. My suggestion is to schedule a meeting either in person or over the phone with your gyn a week or so prior to the procedure to ask him or her your questions. I am sure that you will be reassured.

Good luck with your colposcopy, and I hope that you receive good news from the procedure.
