Choosing a DocFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netMon, 11 Aug 1997 12:13:17 -0400 (EDT)
There's a thread going on on the doc's list, that I'd like to comment on, so I'll do so over here. I recently called the "health care finder" at a large hospital in Northern Virginia. I asked for a list of docs that are on my insurance, according to their records. I wanted to cross this with a list of "good" docs that a college classmate (now MD) had given to me. The health care finder generated a list of approx 20 names, based on the criteria provided: insurance plan and preferred age range (36-50). But then, she would only send me three that she liked and felt were geographically close to me. (I specifically asked how she was choosing from the generated list.) Yikes! What are her criteria for liking a doc? Why couldn't I get a list of all OB-GYNs on my insurance with privileges at that hospital? And, why would she assume that I wouldn't travel to the next town to see a doc? This did not inspire confidence in using a hospital based health care finder. Luanne
