After knee surgery in '94, I stopped having periods.From: jane (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 9 Aug 1997 08:18:01 -0500 (CDT)
This is something I'm very concerned about. I've mentioned it to my doctors and no one seem to think it's significant. July '94, I underwent minor knee surgery. I have been diagnosed with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (R.S.D.) As a means of controlling the RSD, there was an insertion of a catheter into approximately the L-3 space. While in the hospital (seven days), the catheter came out and had to be reinserted three times. My period was due that week. I had always been as regular as the moon. Well, let's just say, there was no full moon. In fact, I didn't have another period until December 5th. I haven't had one since. I saw the gynecologist, who basically said, "Consider it a blessing. No inconvenience." I'm sorry, but at 38 years of age, one doesn't what to hear something like that. I wanted to have a child. Now I wonder if that's at all possible. I've mentioned this situation to other doctors and none of them seem to think that something might have gone wrong. I'm confused. Can one's cycle just stop like that? Any advice would be appreciated. Sincerely, Jane Ryan
