baby's station and c sectionFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 2 Aug 1997 11:48:20 -0500 (CDT)
I recently read a post on the archives about sectioning a woman whose baby was at a +2 station (basically because of a previous c/s). I thought I had resolved my own issues about my cesarean (my first and only baby), believing it to be unnecessary, but I would really appreciate your input. I was induced with prostaglandin gel, then pitocin, no ROM, OP presentation the whole time, with a midwife in attendance. The midwife had me pushing on the commode for quite a while, which, according to the records, was productive in bringing the baby down. I was never told that at the time, and am quite angry that she gave me no verbal encouragement about the baby's progress. When I finally got my records, the "official" diagnosis by the attending OB was CPD. However, the baby's station was +2! If I was effective in bringing the baby down, and he was at a +2 station, wouldn't a cesarean be silly at that point? The baby was not in distress (no decels noted on the chart, in fact the midwife mentions how well he was handling the contractions!). So WHY would they allow me to believe that this baby couldn't come out vaginally? What would you have done? Thanks in advance!
