Ovarian Cancer Surgery - Update from 5/14 messageFrom: Kathy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 28 May 1997 22:45:39 -0500 (CDT)
I asked about laporoscopic surgery in the removal of an ovarian cyst on May 14 and 15. I was concerned that the cyst may be cancerous although my doctor was sure that it was not. I was going in for surgery having to do with a fallen bladder. A mass was discovered on my ovary before the scheduled surgery; please see my previous correspondance for details.I had my surgery last friday, it was performed via a scope. My doctor examined the mass, he was sure that it was a cyst. It was too large to remove in one piece, so he cut it into small pieces so that he would not have to open me up more. When I woke up he said all went well and there was nothing to worry about...today I got the call...the lab report came back, I have cancer. My doctor could not tell anything about it except that an oncologist will call me to set up an appointment. My dad died of colon cancer. His doctor discovered it during surgery. He told me that ther was nothing else he could do for my father and that he was sending him to an oncologist. I think of an oncologist as a "Doctor Death", the last stop on the way out. I am so frightened. Doesn't cancer spread if the tumor is disturbed? Can it be cured ?
