Alloimmune refers to the body producing antibodies to "foreign" tissues -- like the fetus. In normal pregnancies, "blocking antibodies" are formed so the fetus is not rejected by the mother. One theory is that couples who share HLA antigens (basically, antigens on white blood cells) are more likely to not form blocking antibodies. One of the treatments (very contoversial) is to inject the mother with the father's WBCs.

Hope this helps. This imunology stuff is soooooooo confusing, especially when the "experts" can't agree on what's useful and what's not.
