The soy contains phytoestrogens (plant estrogens). There is some thought that they act as pro-estrogens in some body tissues (cardivascular, for one) and anti-estrogens in others (like the breast). There has not been a lot of research into this. I think the soy protein can definitely help with your symptoms and *probably* won't cause any residual endometriosis you have to grow. In terms of it being a replacement for ERT, that hasn't been well studied. I personally think, wihtout the support of rigorous scientific studies, that it can be a replacement IF (and I emphasize the IF) you make some pretty substantial lifestyle changes: vegetarian diet, lots of natural soy products like soybeans,tofu and soy milk and fresh, whole foods; 1500mg of calcium daily; daily exercise, both weight bearing, including weight lifting, and aerobic; alcohol in moderation if at all; no smoking. Those are an awful lot of changes to ask the average American to make.
