Re: Another Q. about Gestational DiabetesFrom: Douglas (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 18 May 1997 14:55:18 -0500 (CDT)
Holly, Dang those OB doctors are smart. Sounds like yours is. ER docs always see the disasters...so don't worry about what he said. Sure you could have more problems, but there are no guarantees in life. It's simple...take good care of yourself. Find a way to lose the weight. Do you really "see" yourself as a thin person? If not, why not? I've seen many many women who've had gestational diabetes in one pregnancy and not in another. Frequently it's been because the diabetes go them to "shape" up the next time. Just remember, illnes is not a condition, it's a process. A signal for you to change. You don't "have" a cold. When you contact a virus, the runny nose and everything is your body in the process of ridding itself of the infection. In the same way you don't "have" gestational diabetes, it's just your body trying to cope with a situation. Change the situation for the next time and I'd be surprised if GDM shows up again. As for the phlebitis, it does have a tendency to recurr, so all you can do is watch your weight, exercise, wear support stockings and avoid staying stationary for any length of time. I see no reason why you cannot have more pregnancies in the future. good luck,
