Gestational diabetes??

I would appreciate a bit of advice about gestational diabetes. My results were borderline on the 1-hour glucose test, and I had 2 slightly elevated numbers on my 3-hour test. As a Navy wife, this means I am automatically transferred to the diabetic management OBs from the clinic where I have previously been seen. I am now monitoring my blood glucose 4 times a day, though I cannot get in to see the nutritionist for another few days, so I am currently on my regular diet. Even with my normal diet, my glucose numbers are all coming in somewhere in the mid-to low range of what they told me was normal. There is no history of diabetes in my family, I am 27 and generally healthy. I was 20 pounds overweight when I conceived due to major knee surgery, but my weight gain has been tracking along well, as has the growth of my baby. Everything points to a normal, healthy pregnancy, except thos two test results. What worries me is that a friend of mine (an OB) gave me a couple of studies (done by reputable government and medical groups) that suggest that a mother who is not at risk of having a macrosomic baby is actually put at risk of having a low-birthweight baby if she follows the GD diet. Please help me find the balance here. Any suggestions on how to tactfully bring up these issues with doctors who tend to see us wives as rather brainless would be appreciated as well.

Thank you!!
