antiphospholipid antibodiesFrom: MO (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 18 May 1997 07:06:10 -0500 (CDT)
Hi We are looking for information on immunological barriers to pregnancy, specifically the APA test, which some doctors only recognize if it includes at least 18 specific sub tests. We want to ask our lab here if they do the full test, if not we have to ask them to ship it from Tokyo to the US. Obviously, it is cheaper and more convenient to do the test here. But we have been unable to find out what to ask the lab to confirm that they do indeed do the full test (or that it is needed for sure). About 8 months ago I had an APA test that was negative, along with Anti-sperm, thyroidal and microsome (spelling?). All negative. One clinic recently refused to recognize an APA test that is not differentiated into its 18 components, although my last IVF with donor egg was following that negative series of tests. Does this still warrant getting the full 18 item APA test and, can anyone tell us what the names are of the individual items so we can ask the lab? A related question. One clinic said I don't need donor eggs if I take care of immune problem (which they say must be if I have had endometriosis). But this seems too pat since this was advised over phone without seeing me in person. (They treat everyone as immunological problem it seems) Besides, the whole reason to come to US is that I have found a good donor and donor is illegal or not allowed in Japan. Previous donor was poor egg quality and stimulation and that was my problem too at age 37--poor egg quality. So, I would like to use good egg donor (day 3 FSH level good) along with immunological treatment if warranted. Is that ridiculous? The clinic I spoke to said forget donor egg and just do immunology. But for that I can stay in Japan as they have this treatment for miscarriage. If I come to US again I hope to use the new donor and any immunology treatment. Am I correct in my conceptualization? Thanks a million.
