As far as I know as a dermatologist the above statement is correct. It is extremely unlikely that shingles can harm the fetus. The cream used to relieve pain is called Zostrix (it contains capsaicin) but I'm not very sure if it can be safely applied in pregnancy (although I'm not aware of any certain contraindication). From my own experience I've seen at least two pregnant women with shingles and they delivered healthy babies.
